Anglophile (n): A person who romanticizes Britain and holds an unreasonable love of Britain culture.

Anglophilia (n): A condition in which a person obsesses about Britain and its culture.

You were born on the wrong side of the pond, weren't you? Yeah, me too.  Like a junkie, I sometimes need a fix for my obsession about Britain--a fix of British culture!  Anytime you sigh, "Ohhh, how I wish I were in England," I hope you'll visit me here at Anglophiles United, where you will find "all things British" on one website.  British TV, newspapers, radio stations, recipes, maps, Anglophile chats, photos...the list goes on and on!  And when you leave Anglophiles United, I hope you'll feel all cozy and content--like you've been sitting in a cottage in an English village, chatting with your dear, old eccentric auntie....

When I was young, the Sears & Roebuck catalog would arrive in our mailbox a month before Christmas.  This December catalog contained a large, glossy toy section.  Every night before bed, my older brother and I would burrow on the couch, wrap a blanket around us, and slowly thumb through each page of toys, savoring the pictures and descriptions.  Dreaming.  Talking.  We never expected to receive all the toys we desired, but we understood the great pleasure in simply looking at the toys and reading about them--and dreaming.  And that’s what I hope Anglophiles United is for you: a Sears catalog of dreams….dreams about Britain!

The BBC News interviewed me for a very interesting article about language, entitled Britishisms and the Britishisation of American English.  Be sure to check it out!

Update: The BBC published a follow-up article about Britishisms used in America and Canada.  To see that article, click HERE
