ANGLOPHILE PASTIMES

Bookmark and Share
In an Anglophile's spare time, he or she may oftentimes be found reading a book by a British author.  In winter, Anglophiles may curl up by a fireplace, or in summer, lounge on the beach, but wherever they are, they're likely to have a British book planted in front of their faces.  (Okay, maybe nowadays, an electronic reader has replaced their book, but you get my drift.)  Anglophiles frequently read classics by, say, Dickens or Austen or Shakespeare, and they read modern works too, with writers such as Ian McEwan or Charles Stross topping many of their lists.  Regardless of which British authors they prefer, all Anglophiles appreciate the wonderful use of the English language they find in British literature.

The Anglophile also delights in keeping abreast of British music.  Some of us grew up listening to the The Beatles and experienced the heady days of the British Invasion, while younger folk may groove to the music of Coldplay or Adele or listen wistfully to the dearly departed Amy Winehouse, may she rest in peace.

And then there are British movies.  Ohhh, how the Anglophile loves a movie set in Britain, starring one of his or her favorite British actors!  The list of British celebs we adore seems almost endless--Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day-Lewis, James McAvoy, Kate Winslet, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Tilda Swinton, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, Maggie Smith.  Really, the list goes on and on!
