"A bit of Britain" in Brooklyn

![]() With airfares at an all-time high, many American Anglophiles find that making a trip to Britain is impossible nowadays. Long gone are the days when we could jump across the puddle, from JFK to Heathrow, for a mere $250. But don't despair, dear Anglophiles! If you can make a trip to New York City, you can experience "jolly old England" right here. New York is filled with British eateries, pubs, clothiers, sports, and much more! Check out some of my favorite British spots in Manhattan and Brooklyn. . . . "A bit of Britain" in Manhattan 1. Tea & Sympathy 2. Myers of Keswick Cornish pasties . . . curried lamb, Scotch eggs Manhattan is filled with British clothiers. Ben Sherman, Stella McCartney, Topshop. . .the names go on and on. One of my favorite, though, is the British "institution" Burberry. 3. Burberry ![]() Burberry: An iconic British brand. 4. Goorin Bros. 5. Village Apothecary 6. Jo Malone, London "A bit of Britain" in Brooklyn Visitors to New York City who fail to make it to Brooklyn miss the hippest area of the Big Apple. GQ magazine proclaimed Brooklyn the "coolest city on the planet," and I surely second the vote! Here are a couple of my favorite British hangouts in the great borough of Brooklyn. . . . 1. Monro Pub ![]() The fabulously cool owners of The Monro make this British pub a fun place to hangout, watch football games (that's Brit Speak for "soccer," of course), and chat with friends. The pub's informal ambiance has a neighborhood feel and attracts British ex-pats. The pub also offers a long list of British beers. (The owners are a man and wife team; he's from Liverpool, she's from Brooklyn. Be sure to ask them where they met!) 2. ChipShop ![]() ChipShop is a hoot with its kitschy interior and fun atmosphere. The restaurant offers great-tasting British food at reasonable prices. They don't shoo you away when you're done eating either; you can hangout and chat with your friends here. Their fish & chips are excellent! (ChipShop has two Brooklyn locations.) Yes, dear Anglophiles, NYC is a great place to visit for a British buzz!
