I went to the "London by Virgin Atlantic" event yesterday in Manhattan, where spectators were encouraged to make fools of themselves (oops! I mean "encouraged to make the guard laugh") in order to win airline tickets to London. The spectacle was cringe-worthy at times, but always highly entertaining! I thought the contest was brilliant, actually. The MC was a hoot and that guard NEVER laughed. Not sure how he managed that. (I'm one who laughs hysterically with little to no provocation.) The event took place on the front plaza of Union Square, adjacent to the famed Saturday Farmer's Market, so a crowd was present. The audience loved even the lamest jokes, dancing, and singing. What folks won't do to get to London!
