BRITISH RADIO

British radio can supply the Anglophile with an unlimited dose of the wonderful British accents that we all adore.  Just spin the dial (well, click a link below), and you can be transported all over the UK.  Why, listen to enough BBC radio, and soon you'll be speaking like the Queen herself!  (I dare say, such exposure is like taking elocution lessons, right?)

I haven't even touched upon the content of British radio--particularly the extensive world news found on BBC.  On American radio (or television), world news, especially during a presidential election cycle, can be difficult to come by.  But thankfully, we can always count on the BBC to show us the world at large.  Enjoy!

Radio Station Links

Note:  You can listen to live content on many of the stations listed below by clicking the "LISTEN" button on their opening page.  Some stations, however, are not allowed to broadcast outside the UK, but even those stations provide some online content--just not live programming.  (These stations require the listener to input a UK postal code (such as "WC1") before they deliver content to your computer.)  Even if you have no postal code to input, you can still find plenty of clips and videos on these websites to entertain yourself.  Most stations require Windows Media Player or a streaming MP3 player, such as iTunes.

Zella's Comment:  I'm addicted to the radio station LBC (London's Biggest Conversation).  Its 24/7, call-in-show format allows the Anglophile to stay abreast of current topics and to understand the views of ordinary British citizens.  I consider it a pipeline to the real Britain, rather than to the glamorized, fictional Britain often portrayed in books and movies.  There are various shows on this channel throughout the day, but they're all call-in, and each features a different host.  Some hosts are more liberal, some more conservative--but listeners' viewpoints run the gamut!
